Kick-start the festive period with Oldham’s annual Christmas lights switch-on. Kids will have the chance to meet Cbeebies favourite Hey Duggee throughout the afternoon, before singing pilot Stuart Beech and award-winning dance troupe Fierce do the honours of lighting up the town for Christmas. There’ll be a grand firework display to round off the evening and set the season off with a bang. Entry is free.

Meet Santa, Mrs Claus and a host of elves at Cariad Angel Gowns’ festive family fun day. With face painting, craft stalls, games and entertainment, it promises to be a memorable day for kids and parents alike. £5 tickets get a child and an adult entry, or children and adults can pay £2 and £3 on the door respectively. All proceeds go towards families affected by stillbirth and neonatal loss, and there will be a memory table for bereaved parents to leave messages and light candles for their children.

Fancy something a bit more exciting than staying in and watching Strictly this weekend? Then look no further than the Dance 2 Connect street dance festival. With theatre performances, workshops, dance battles and live music, both experienced dancers and amateurs are in for a real treat. And if you still can’t stop moving after all that, DJ Khan Fu is hosting an afterparty to keep you bopping into the early hours. For a classy Saturday night out, why not treat yourself to a trip to the annual Oldham Assembly. The glamourous black-tie event, now in its 178th year, boasts a delicious sit-down meal courtesy of The White Hart as well as top standard live music guaranteed to have you dancing the night away. Tables of eight to 12 are available. Tickets cost £69.50 per head and include admission and food, with proceeds going to Maggie’s hospital and Madhlo youth club.

Whether you missed it in the cinema or simply can’t resist the urge to see it again, the film features a guest appearance from none other than pop legend Cher and is jam-packed with pop classics that’ll have you singing along in the aisles.
