CHURCHGOERS will get the chance to meet Blackburn Cathedral’s new director of music tomorrow night.

John Robinson has taken over from Samuel Hudson as the director and organist, following his departure to take up a similar role at Worcester Cathedral.

He is joining Blackburn direct from the Boston area, where he served as the musical director for St Paul's Choir School, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Before his American odyssey, he was a chorister at Hereford Cathedral, before joining the school there as an organ pupil of Dr Ro Massey.

Scholarships from Canterbury Cathedral and St John's College, Cambridge, followed before he became an assistant musical director at Carlisle then Canterbury.

His recorded work, as an organ soloist, accompanist and choir director, has appeared on labels including Hyperion, Decca, Sony Classical, and Priory.

Those interested in learning more about him are asked to contact Gill Fourie via e-mail at gill.fourie@blackburncathedral.co.uk
