FLAMES have engulfed the first floor of a former pub in Werneth.
Firefighters are currently tackling the blaze in the building which was once the Smut Inn on Manchester Road, with four engines in attendance.
Police and ambulance are also at the scene, with the junction at Spencer Street shut.
A large quantity of smoke is issuing from the site, and residents and businesses have been advised to keep their doors and windows shut.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service said: "We were called at 9am to Manchester Road, in Oldham, to a fire involving a derelict building.
"It is creating a large amount of smoke.
"We have sent four fire engines from Hollins, Chadderton, Ashton and Rochdale, as well as a command unit."
Crews are using six breathing apparatus and three hose reels to tackle the fire.
Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service tweeted at about 10am: "We currently have four pumps dealing with an incident in Manchester Road in Werneth, Oldham.
"The incident is creating a lot of smoke. If you are local keep windows and doors closed."
Transport for Greater Manchester said: "Travel update: Due to a building fire, A62 Manchester Road, Oldham, is closed at the junction of Spencer Street travelling inbound to Oldham. Please find alternative route. #TfGMTraffic."
