THE final stage of work on a major new link road leading to the £100 million regeneration scheme at Broadway Green in Chadderton will start early next year.

The new road will give motorists and pedestrians access to the development, which once complete will provide more than 600,000 sq ft of employment space and up to 500 new homes.

Work on the final section will begin on Monday, January 6.

It is a major construction project and will include the decommissioning of Crossley Bridge, the old railway bridge located north west of the San Rocco Restaurant, and the construction of a new signalised junction on Broadway.

As a result, there will be unavoidable disruption to residents and road users, say Oldham Council chiefs.

Restrictions will be put in place on Broadway, including lane closures (from four to three) and possible overnight closures. This will impact on journey times so plan in advance.

Arrangements for pedestrian access will be made at all times.

The contractors will aim to keep disruption to a minimum and will redirect construction traffic away from existing residential areas where possible, the council said.

The expected completion date for the link road is the end of 2020.

Work is progressing well at Broadway Green - the joint venture between Oldham Council and Foxdenton LLP.

It’s estimated the scheme will create 2,000 new jobs and will be give a boost worth £4.6 million annually to the local retail economy from resident spending.

Regular updates will be available via the Oldham Council website, its twitter feed @OldhamCouncil and via the website of its join-venture partners www.Foxdentonllp.co.uk
