FOUR Bolton kickboxers have enjoyed success at a major event in Scotland.

The quartet from the North West Warriors gym brought back an impressive medal haul from the ICO World Championships in Motherwell, near Glasgow, as they represented Great Britain in style.

Tommy Roberts, aged 13, won three golds, 12-year-old Havery Knowles won four, Victoria Blaunt, aged 10, won a gold, a silver and a bronze while Ibrahim Qayyum, just seven years of age, won four silver medals. Along with head coach and chief instructor Paul Smith and their parents, the team spent six days competing at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, used as a venue at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Preparations had lasted five weeks and included a special training camp and competing at the Bristol Open, an international event where 110 martial arts clubs from 16 countries took part.

Eight world titles followed with Qayyum unlucky to narrowly miss out on one in some tight finals.

“What we witnessed was truly amazing,” said Smith.

“All our Warriors represented Great Britain and battled through their categories. All our hard work paid off and I was truly proud of each fighter.

“The compliments we received from fighters and coaches at the event were outstanding.”

The club, based on Vale Street, are inviting new members to come and train for a week for free.
