OLDHAM Council is encouraging residents to start the new decade with a meaningful New Year’s resolution this year and is offering a range of services to help.

Its New Year New You campaign was launched today (Monday, January 6) in a bid to encourage residents thinking about improving their health, finances, work and education plans or what they can do in their community.

Leisure passes provided by Oldham Community Leisure will be on offer as part of a competition on the council’s social media feeds (#NYNU20) for those people willing to pledge to change.

Cllr Zahid Chauhan, Cabinet member for health and social care, said: “As this New Year is also the start of a new decade then there is an extra incentive for residents to make significant, meaningful and sustainable changes to their lifestyles as well as their family, dependents, friends and neighbours.

“Oldham Council and our community partners offer a range of services to help residents and we want to support them to take that first step on their own personal journey to change.

“It might be making the decision to move more, eat better, drink less, quit smoking or consider mental health. Or it may be thinking of how you can contribute in your community as a volunteer.

“It could be having a financial MOT to look how you could save a few pounds to spend on more meaningful things for you and your loved ones. Or it could be making that step to get into employment, changing jobs or doing something in education.

“Oldham Council wants to offer help where it can and by residents telling their stories on our social media (#NYNU20) they will feel they have taken that important first step as well as encouraging others to do the same.”
