A WARNING has gone out over expected traffic disruption on the A635 Holmfirth Road in Saddleworth while carriageway improvements take place.

Work starts on Monday, February 10 and will continue for eight days.

Oldham Council's senior highways and engineering officer Matt McGreal to residents warning of the road works.

He said that works will be carried out over multiple shifts timed over 24 hour periods.

Mr McGreal wrote: "Given that road widths are tight along this stretch, the works will be carried out with both a road closure for Holmfirth bound traffic and under lane closures for Oldham bound traffic, but with the traffic being convoyed through by a traffic management vehicle, ensuring speeds are kept to 10mph through the live site.

"This is the safest possible way to carry out the works, as a road closure isn’t possible due to the length of the diversion and the possible impact on the motorway network. Working this way is likely to cause delays, which in this instance are unavoidable."

Signs have been put at either end of the works, and also on the major routes leading to the Denshaw Cross Roads.

Access for residents and emergency services will be maintained, he said.
