TWO Bury ABC fighters are in to the last eight of a prestigious competition.
Abdul Khan and Ali Akhbar Javid are into the quarter-finals of the Great Britain Youth and Cadet Championships after victories at the Ashton Masonic Hall.
Khan won a split decision in the 52-56kg class against Liam Harper from Exhall ABC.
Javid was a winner in the 60-64kg category, winning unanimously on points against Justin Revell from Burton Park ABC.
The final three rounds of competition now take place in Coventry this weekend.
The quarter-finals are tomorrow, Friday, with the semi-finals on Saturday and the champions then crowned on Sunday with Bury coach Mick Jelley looking to continue his long tradition of producing champion fighters.
Khan is the great nephew of Shah Khan, father of Bolton’s former unified world champion Amir, who was also coached by Jelley in his younger days.
