A HIGH street unit has been revamped into a community hub to support adults with disabilities and mental health issues.

Outreach Community and Residential Services, which provides residential support for adults aged 18 and over who have learning disabilities and/or mental health needs, has moved into 35-37 Blackburn Street, Radcliffe.

The town centre site, formerly home to DIY shop The Homemakers Inn, has undergone a major refurbishment ahead of its open day today.

Quality & Staff Development Manager Bev Shaw said: “Everyone from the community is invited to come along and hear our plans for the future.

"It is also an opportunity for people to make suggestions about the activities they would like to see happening in our community rooms.”

Outreach began renting the site in early September last year.

Since then, construction teams have been installing walls and partitions within the premises, and building office spaces, staff toilets, a kitchen, recreational space, therapy room, café and accessible toilets.

It runs four small residential care homes in Prestwich, as well as four supported living properties, shared housing and a domiciliary service supporting people in their own homes.

Bev said: "I am really pleased that we have created a community hub. It gives us great opportunity to have a real presence in the community. We know that there are many people struggling to cope, especially older parents who have grown-up children with disabilities who don’t get the support they need or are unaware of what is available to them.

"Now we are here in Radcliffe people can pop in for a brew, get to know us and get to know what we have to offer.

"We have created a fantastic space which we want to utilise for the benefit of various groups."

The long-term aim of the care agency, formerly based at Redbank House in Cheetham Hill, is to provide services seven days per week. They also envisage the café providing training and volunteering opportunities.

The open day will be held from 10am to 5pm.
