SEVERAL people have been punished at Tameside Magistrates' Court for dumping black bin bags full of household waste in alleyways at the rear of their homes in Oldham.

Legal action has been taken by Oldham Council under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Maria Raluca Buna, 21, of Kelverlow Street, Oldham, dumped two bin bags in the rear alley of her property on or before July1, last year. She was fined £220 and ordered to pay 3412 costs and £32 to victim services.

Cameron Crossley, 23, of Fulham Street, also dumped two bin bags in the alleyway behind his home on or before July 15. He was fined 3220 and ordered to pay £381 costs and £32 to victim servces.

Ahmed Hussain, 23, of Brewerton Road, Oldham, dumped two black bin bags with waste in the rear alleyway of Brewerton Road on or before July 2, 2019. He was fined £220 and ordered to pay £381 costs and £32 to victim services.

Chelsea Tyrer, 28, of Gordon Avenue, Oldham, on July 16, 2019 failed to remove all loose and bagged waste from premises as required by a community protection notice. She was fined £220 and ordered to pay £785 costs and £32 to victim services.

Oldham Council's cabinet member for neighbourhood services Cllr Ateeque Ur-Rehman said: “We are committed to keeping the borough clean but, sadly, some residents still think they can dump rubbish in alleyways.

“Fly tipping like this, has a really negative impact on our community and all cases that are reported to us will be investigated and if evidence is found, action will be taken. “Over the last few years we’ve prosecuted dozens of people for fly tipping and fined hundreds of people for littering and we’ll continue to do so.

"Following new rules designed to stop our neighbourhoods being blighted by waste, anyone caught fly tipping can now be issued with a £400 fixed penalty notice."
