AN entrepreneur who launched his own Mexican grill in Bolton is expanding into Manchester.
Mohammed Shahzad has been building up his Don Tacos business in the town centre — in Deansgate — since 2016.
Now he is set to launch a second restaurant on Manchester's famous curry mile in Rusholme.
The 37-year-old, who studied food management at Manchester Metropolitan University, has built up his business from scratch — and even sources some of his authentic spices all the way from Mexico.
Now, he will bring his much-loved tacos and burritos to Manchester when he opens his second takeaway in Wilmslow Road.
Mr Shahzad, who moved to the UK from Pakistan to study, offers his food on all of the major delivery apps — JustEat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats — as well as from his own website.
He said: "We had very hard time but initially hard but we didn’t give up.
"We knew our food was good and we have slowly built up a loyal customer base.
"I get a lot of my spices direct from Mexico. After studying food management I wanted to do something related to me degree.
"I worked in the catering industry in London for a while but then decided to move back to the North West and to do this."
"I always wanted to run my own food business and Mexican was my favourite when I was studying. It is also a popular cuisine and so it made good business sense."
Last week The Bolton News reported that plans to demolish the YMCA building have left shop owners unsure about the future.
Mr Shahzad says he is now considering moving from his current Bolton premises as footfall has reduced in the area.
