A PHOTO inspired by Humphrey Spender’s Mass Observation Project and an image of a wintery scene have been chosen as the first two winning entries to feature in The Bolton News 2021 Calendar.
The competition was launched at the start of the year to collect 12 images which perfectly capture Bolton month by month.
Chief photographer Gus Sivyer said: “The competition was open to members or our camera club and throughout January and February we had a huge selection of outstanding photographs to choose from.
“Our winning January picture was a black and white image of a woman crossing a wet Victoria Square taken by Henry Lisowski, which although contemporary in its setting it has a feel of Humphrey Spender’s classic Worktown images which capture Bolton in the 1930s.

“The winning image for February was taken by Coralie Foster at Walkers Fold and shows the snowy scenes she encountered during a dog walk.
“This image captures Bolton beautiful countryside at its best during winter.”

Entries are now open for March, with one winner being selected to feature in The Bolton News calendar.

Gus said: “Every month a winner will be announced in print and online and we will showcase some of the other entries we had received. Winners of each month will all receive a copy of the calendar."
