TEN people are now known to have been diagnosed with coronavirus in Oldham.

Council bosses have confirmed that this was the running total of cases in the borough as of 9am today.

Town hall leaders insist that "robust plans" are in place to stop the virus spreading further across Oldham.

The last confirmed case before then - the second locally - was confirmed on Sunday.

These two incidents related to people who had travelled to Thailand and Northern Italy but there is no word yet on how the further eight cases occurred. An Oldham Council spokesman said: "As ever, the safety and wellbeing of Oldham residents remains our top priority.

"Oldham is well prepared for an outbreak of this kind and there are robust plans in place to minimise any disruption."

Those concerned are being urged to check the NHS website for the latest public health advice.
