TRAVELLERS in Oldham are being urged to check with public transport operators before setting off on train, tram or bus journeys due to coronavirus.

Bosses at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) say with the government advising against non-essential travel, passengers are being asked to vary the time of their trips, to avoid rush hours.

A spokesman added: "However we understand that some of you will need to travel for essential reasons - for work or to support family or friends.

"At this time services continue to run and TfGM will be working closely with rail, bus and the Metrolink operator over the coming days.

"We want to reassure you that for people who do need to travel there is a rigorous cleaning regime in place and public transport is continuing to run.

"But please check with individual operators ahead of your journey."
