AN Oldham charity has announced the death of its CEO from covid-19, in a touching tribute to the "tremendous" worker.

Mahdlo, which provides activities and opportunities for young people in the town, said that Mike Doran had died shortly before midnight on Friday, April 24.

The post said: "It is with the saddest of hearts that I must inform you that after a brave three week battle against Covid-19, our CEO Mike Doran passed away.

"Each of us at Mahdlo Youth Zone not only grieve at the passing of a tremendous individual and the driving force behind our fantastic organisation, but also for the loss his family suffers.

"Our hearts and prayers go out to them."

The tribute, penned by chairman of the board Chris Wareing, continued: "As we go forward, let us continue to adopt Mike's values and ensure that Mahdlo represents the very best of standards, as a fitting tribute to a very fine leader.

"We have lost a dear friend and faithful colleague. His insistence of 'excellence' will always inspire all of us."

Mahdlo provides innovative activities and experiences for young people from Oldham, running from their base in Egerton Street and in venues across the borough.
