AN investigation has been launched into a care home after a video was published on social media showing staff dancing on chairs and doing wheelies on a wheelchair and partying.

The probe by Oldham Safeguarding Partnership follows a public outcry over the footage filmed at Stoneleigh House in Springhead.

The video appears to show staff partying, without social distancing measures being adopted, in the kitchen and communal area of the care home following VE day celebrations. It is understood that no residents were present at the time.

A press release issued via Oldham Council's media team said: "As part of safeguarding measures that have been put in place, all staff involved have been suspended by the care home while the investigation is being carried out.

"The area has been closed off to residents while a deep clean is carried out. As a precaution, all residents will be tested for the coronavirus.

"Oldham Council, along with the private company that owns the care home, has ensured that there is adequate staff cover following the suspensions. The council is also reviewing the care home’s infection prevention measures."

Cllr Zahid Chauhan, cabinet member for health and social care at Oldham Council, said: "The immediate launch of our safeguarding procedures shows you just how seriously we are treating this.

“The scenes showed in video footage are totally unacceptable. Our focus is the safety of all residents and to ensure that the care delivered at the home is of the highest possible standard.”

Oldham Safeguarding Partnership is made up of Oldham Council, local police and NHS bodies.

The care home is run by Master Palm Properties Ltd.
