A MUM from Blackrod has thanked the “little angel” who paid for her son’s treats after his card declined at their local shop.

Oscar Bainbridge, ten, went to John’s Premier shop in New Street at around 11.30am on Wednesday

He picked out some Kinder bars and a slush, intending to pay for them with his gohenry card, a pre-paid debit card for children aged six and up.

When the card wouldn’t work at the till, Oscar was ready to race home to grab some cash, but a kind-hearted man in the queue behind him covered the bill.

Oscar’s mum, 42-year-old Amanda Bainbridge, wants to thank the “fab man” for his gesture.

She said: “He went out to the shop because had a bit of money left over on his card and wanted to grab a treat for the day.

"Obviously I didn’t think for a second that his card wasn’t working, but there was some kind of problem with the pin and the payment wouldn't go through.

“Because it’s our local shop I know that if he were short he could come home and get the money and go back again but it must have been very uncomfortable and awkward for him.

“No one wants to be bouncing back and forth to the shops, especially not at the moment, so it was such a lovely thing that this man did for him.”

Oscar, who is Amanda’s youngest son, was delighted with the act and has told all of their neighbours about his encounter with the kind man.

Gohenry cards, like Oscar's, are used by over a million parents across the world as a way to limit how much kids can spend.

The cards can be loaded up with money via an app, and can be used like a regular debit card.

Parents can set up controls or restrictions to limit their child's spending, or use the card as a way to teach kids to be responsible about money.

Oscar mostly uses his card for online purchases, but will also treat himself sometimes too.

Amanda added: “It was only a small gesture but he really appreciated it, he was overwhelmed that some one did that for him.

“He came home and he told everybody that he’d just met the kindest man, he told all of his friends online about it.

“It’s not often that you see something like this and it was really nice that someone was looking out for him.

"That man is just a little angel, and me and Oscar just want to say thank you.”
