TWO more people have died at Royal Bolton Hospital after contracting coronavirus.

One of the patients died yesterday, whilst the other died on Friday.

The latest figures, released by NHS England this afternoon, confirmed 200 deaths at the borough's hospital have now been linked to covid-19.

This number may rise as some positive results can be received days after the patient's death.

Figures do not include deaths which may have occurred outside hospitals, such as in care homes, where at least 66 deaths in Bolton have been linked to covid-19.

Just 122 new deaths were announced by NHS England today, although the reporting process may have been affected after the covid patient notification system failed for parts of Saturday, May 16.

As of 9am yesterday morning, 243,695 people had been diagnosed with coronavirus, with nearly 35,000 people across the country dying with the virus.

A total of 940 confirmed cases have been reported across the borough.

Latest figures show April 8 had the most hospital deaths on a single day, with 889 patients dying in hospitals across England with the virus.
