LITTLE Eva Hewitt turned her first tentative steps as a runner into an amazing marathon mission and raised more than £1,700 for NHS charities.

Nearly every day over two weeks, the plucky seven year old from Springhead ran between one and three miles followed by a growing army of sponsors until she actually clocked up more than the equivalent of 26 miles full blown miles.

Backed by her father, Ryan, Eva travelled on a wave of colourful support from her family including her brother Frank, aged four, wearing a range of fancy dress costumes to spur her on.

And after crossed the finishing line dressed as an NHS hero, her proud mother Heather said: “Eva’s been absolutely amazing. She was inspired by Captain Bob - she couldn't believe how much money he raised.

“We are so proud as parents, she is such an inspiration. Amazingly she has raised over £1,700 for NHS charities, a number we never expected to reach.

“Big thanks to go to everyone who sponsored her, it's been such a memorable and happy experience in these strange and uncertain times.”

Eva is a pupil at Knowsley Junior School and her mum added: “She is very aware of the situation around us and the brave people who put their lives at risk every day working for the NHS on the front line trying to save lives.

“Most of her runs were in the Springhead, Grotton and Lees area. Some friends and family would look out for her and wave as she ran past. It's just amazing from a girl who isn't really interested in running.”
