This year's Gorsedh festival will not be taking place after organisers declared it "impossible to hold" amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement released this morning the Grand Bard of Gorsedh Kernow, Elizabeth Carne, Melennek announced the postponement of the Cornish Esedhvos Festival and Bardic Ceremony due to be held in Bude-Stratton this September.
Gorsedh Kernow, which exists to maintain the national Celtic spirit of Cornwall, said it was with "great regret" that the decision had been reached.
The organisation said: "Unfortunately, with the current situation and the possibility of social distancing remaining in place for the rest of 2020, it has been decided that it will be impossible to hold the event this year."
The Grand Bard added: "We are extremely disappointed, but looking forward to being in Bude next year.”
The decision has been made in consultation with Gorsedh Kernow Council and the mayor of Bude, Bob Willingham, who has confirmed that the town would be happy to host the Gorsedh in 2021 instead - particularly as a great deal of preparation had already taken place.
Mr Willingham said: “We are very sorry we will not be hosting the 2020 Gorsedh Kernow Esedhvos, but will see you all in 2021.”
