AN inquest has opened into the death of an unemployed care home manager from Failsworth.

Joanne Howarth, 54, of Brooks Drive, Failsworth, died at the Royal Oldham Hospital on January 2.

Police Coroner's Officer, Bernadette Hatton, told the hearing at Rochdale Coroners' Court that Mrs Howarth was brought into A&E in cardiac arrest, but after recovering she was due to have a CT scan when her condition worsened and she died in the department.

She was in poor health and spent a lot of time in her bedroom, said Ms Hatton.

The previous night her husband had heard a loud thud and found his wife lying on the floor.

The precise medical cause of death has not yet been ascertained but there are no suspicious circumstances.

Coroner Catherine McKenna formally opened the inquest, to take place at a later date.
