THE coronavirus pandemic has been a time for heroes with key workers to the fore. But antoher group of ‘heroes’ been spreading joy around Trafford.

Captain America, Batman, Thor and Wonderwoman have been running around the streets of Sale during lockdown to bring smiles to the faces of children - from a safe social distance.

The superhero team thought it would be a great opportunity to raise money in the process for RMHC - Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The charity help families stay close to their children in hospital by providing free ‘home away from home’ accommodation in their 11 houses across the UK. #Team RMHC are passionate about the support they give to the 6,000 families helped each year.

This weekend, the superheroes are staging their own Independence Day run on July 4, starting at 10am, when they all assemble and the actual run starts at 10.30am from Ashton Park along Dumber Lane. There will be an opportunity to get photographs at the Roebuck Pub in Urmston. The run will finish at the Eskdale Lodge.

At the time of going to press the total raised by the group was approaching £6,000.

So don’t be scared if you see characters running through the streets.

Matt Keen, who has dressed as Captain America, said: “ It is so weird that I started to do it as a run and others dressed up too.

“We have had lots of requests of visits on birthdays and it has really helped people in lockdown."
