A SCREENWRITER from Oldham has been recognised at an Indian film summit.

L J Cluskey's has seen 'Stepping Off The Carpathia' lauded at the Tagore International Film Festival.

He walked away with honours in the 'Feature Script Outstanding Achievement' category. This now qualifies the scribe for the Sun of the East Awards, which take place in December in Bolpur.

His success follows on from his 2017 breakthrough at the Film-makers International Screenwriting Awards. Since then he has completed an MA in creative writing. He is also an author and perform as an acoustic soloist musically and with The Miners Band.

He said: "If I can really make ground like this with a first writing I should keep making progress and do well. I have got my writing planned well, I know where my mind is at and where it is going as a writer."

Mr Cluskey is also a keen advocate for research into a cure for the industrial disease mesothelioma.

"The best thing about having some time to work with regarding the screenplay is that I have had the chance to improve it even more by reading through it on numerous occasions," he added.
