OLDHAM could be about to get its first Starbucks - if plans to redevelop a pub go ahead.

Blueprints have been drawn up to redevelop the Bowling Green Inn site in Chadderton, which is part of the Middleton Inns group.

Demolition would be required before the development, off the A62, could proceed, council officials have been told.

The pub only reopened last weekend after the enforced coronavirus lockdown.

Planning agents say the scheme will generate jobs - with a KFC also envisaged for the Hollinwood location.

The nearest Starbucks is in Ashton - though there are KFC drive-thrus in Oldham, Chadderton and Failsworth.

And they insist the loss of the pub would not greatly affect community amenties as the Spinners Arms is a short distance away, and The Bridgewater is also said to be close by.

An estimated 20 full-time and 36 part-time positions would be created as a result of the application, it is expected.

Planning agent Jordan Clarke said: "The proposed development will be of high quality, modern design with a pallet of materials and features familiar to, and associated with, the two brands.

"Measures will be put in place to minimise noise and odours generated by the two units to protect amenity.

"The site is in a highly accessible location. It is well served by public transport including frequent bus services and the Metrolink stop within one kilometre walking distance

"The site also benefits from excellent highways connections and pedestrian access. We also consider the development will not have an adverse impact on the capacity of the local road network."
