OFFICERS working across an East Lancashire town have seized around £20,000 in illegal cash off the streets over recent days.

As well as seizing the cash - which is believed to have been obtained through crime, police working in and around Burnley have also executed several warrants resulting in the recovery of drugs and stolen goods.

A spokesman said: "In the last six days, officers from team five alone have seized nearly £20,000 in cash that is believed to have been obtained in crime.

"They have also carried out warrants at addresses within Burnley in which drugs and stolen goods were recovered.

"We have also arrested numerous people for drug dealing, going equipped and theft resulting in some of these offenders receiving custodial sentences at court."

The same spokesman said overnight on Sunday a man, found to be carrying several bladed tools, was arrested in the Burnley wood area of the town.

The suspect had been spotted acting in a suspicious way coming out of an alleyway while carrying a laptop.

He was stopped, searched and arrested on suspicion of going equipped for burglary.
