A MAN sitting on the floor outside a Blackburn store was attacked by two other men.

Blackburn magistrates heard the victim claimed he had no idea why he had been attacked by Scott Ruddy.

But Jonathan Taylor, defending, said there had been history between the two men and the victim was fully aware of why it had happened.

“Despite that, my client accepts this incident should not have taken place,” said Mr Taylor.

Ruddy, 29, of Oak Grove, Darwen, pleaded guilty to assaulting Akira Robinson.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 20 days of rehabilitation and ordered to pay £50 compensation to the victim, £85 costs and £90 victim surcharge.

Ruby Mckeague, prosecuting, said Mr Robinson was outside the B&M Bargains store on the Peel Retail Park when he was approached by Ruddy and another man, who punched and kicked him and threw cans of cider at him, then suddenly stopped and walked away.

Miss Mckeague said Ruddy returned five minutes later and told the aggrieved he was scruffy and “deserved it.”
