ONE of Saddleworth’s most iconic pubs is being given a woman’s touch.

The Swan Inn in Dobcross square has been taken over by 45 year old mother of four Joanne Caffrey, an experienced barmaid at the Grove Inn on Rochdale Road, Blackley.

And she was given a musical welcome to the historic 18th century hostelry by one of her first customers, Dave Morris, the world champion whistler who lives in the village.

After serving her first socially distanced pints, Joanne said: “I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for a long time but I’ve always wanted my own pub. This is a dream come true. I was delighted to be offered the chance to run such a well known pub.”

Dave said: “Joanne is very friendly and welcoming and I wish her well.”

A spokesperson for Marstons confirmed: “We have appointed a temporary new tenant to reopen the Swan to the local community. The new tenant is Joanne Caffrey.”

The pub is currently only serving drinks but Joanne hopes to add food in the near future.
