Runners can look forward to a new half marathon in the borough next year as organisers of the Chorley 10K announce that this year’s running event will be cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Council members took the decision earlier this week to cancel the popular event, due to take place on 30 August, to prioritise the health and safety of participants, volunteers, spectators and staff.

Cllr Peter Wilson, deputy leader of Chorley Council said: “It’s really disappointing that the event, like many others, has had to be cancelled but we’ve had to put the health of those involved first. We have given the event every opportunity to take place, leaving it as long as we could before having to take the decision, but feel that cancelling it is the right thing to do and we look forward to next year’s event. Thank you to everyone involved for their support with the event and in particular Fylde Coast Runners who put a huge effort into the race.

“We urge everyone who has been training for the event to keep up the healthy lifestyle – it’s more important than ever to look after our wellbeing.”
