GUITAR-driven post-punk rockers Stepford Wives could be on the verge of the big time after their music was featured on Sky Sport Soccer AM.

The combo from Saddleworth have also been played recently on BBC Introducing - for up and coming bands - and on the national BBC radio network.

Stepford Wives were signed on to a development deal by Salford indie label AIM after a gig where their powerful and intelligent guitar lines and memorable hooks in their songs won over scores of new fans.

And it was the band's cross-generational appeal which prompted the label's top brass to sing them up.

Front man and singer/guitarist is 54-year-old Niklos Jackson, a media studies teacher at Saddleworth School, while self-employed web designer Dom Wint, 40 plays lead guitar.

Bass/backing vocals and drums are played by 18-year-olds Rowan Heywood and Jarrod Ogden, respectively, both ex-pupils of Saddleworth School.

"The lads weren't in any of my classes at the school, but Rowan goes out with my daughter Maisie," said Nik.

"We had a fun jam session about 18 months ago and it sounded great so we decided to give at a go. We're having loads of fun."

The band are booked to play at a (socially distanced) sell-out outdoor festival at the Irish Centre in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, on Saturday, August 22 and will perform at the new Whittles at Tokyo in King Street, Oldham on Saturday, September 19.

Stepford Wives are already winning plaudits for their combination of youthful optimism with mercurial wisdom, serving up raucous, intelligent guitar music that packs a powerful punch.

In 2019, the band released their first single, Follow This Way.

It was thanks to this track and their raw, energetic gigs, Stepford Wives quickly caught the attention of radio stations, promoters and the music press.

I Can’t Fight, the band's second single, made Indie Rocks Radio's Top Ten Singles of 2019 and magazine and website Louder Than War called them "Ones to watch 2020".

Their four-track EP, Stepford Wives, was recorded at The Edge & 6dB studios with Ding Archer (who's worked with Cabbage, The Fall and PJ Harvey) and mastered at Abbey Road. It will be released both digitally and on limited edition physical format in the spring.

"For fans of Joy Division, Talking Heads, The Clash, even Fugazi and Dead Kennedys, we blend post-punk attitude with a 21st century outlook,"said Nik.

"Our objective now is build on our fan base."
