A MEMBER of staff at a city centre shop has tested positive for coronavirus.

The Broadway Bradford Specsavers branch confirmed today that a worker there has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

All customers who came into contact with the staff member have been alerted to the news.

The store has not had to close though.

A spokesperson for Specsavers said: "We can confirm that a colleague at Specsavers on Broadway, Bradford has tested positive for COVID-19.

"The health and safety of our customers and teams is our first priority and the store is following NHS and government guidelines.

"All customers who came into contact with the colleague have been informed as a precautionary measure.

"However, as all of our colleagues wear NHS-approved personal protective equipment in-store the risk of transmission is low."

A concerned member of the public revealed on social media website, Facebook, that two members of their family had been contacted regarding the positive case.

Their public post outlined how their daughter and granddaughter had been there over the weekend and then received a phone call on Monday, August 10.

They were told the person who dealt with them at the store had tested positive for coronavirus and were instructed to isolate for two weeks, according the member of the public.

Another person commented on the post to say they were "not surprised" at the news.

They explained that they put in a complaint to Specsavers after visiting the Broadway Bradford store a few weeks ago, just after reopening.

They claimed staff members were not using PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) properly.

But the spokesperson for Specsavers revealed the claims were unfounded after an assessment of the store.

They said: "All Specsavers stores are following strict guidelines to keep our customers and colleagues as safe as possible during the pandemic.

"These include social distancing, the use of personal protective equipment, enhanced cleaning and the disinfection of test rooms and equipment between customers.

"After concerns were raised about the store's adherence to these guidelines, the store has been assessed and found to be meeting expectations around health and safety.

"We would encourage anyone with concerns to contact the store director on 01274 730052."
