FORMER Oldham Athletic and Bolton Wanderers footballer Jermaine Johnson is recovering in hospital after he was involved in a shooting incident in his homeland Jamaica.

According to reports in the Jamaica Observer, Johnson, 40, was one of three people shot in the capital city Kingston yesterday afternoon (Thursday, September 3).

Johnson, who now plays for Tivoli Gardens Football Club in the local Red Stripe Premier League, Tivoli Gardens netball player Nicole Henry, and another man were rushed to hospital following the incident.

All three are said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Johnson is reported to have been hit in his abdomen.

Police investigating the shooting believe it is related to an ongoing gang feud in the area with witnesses saying a car was seen driving up to the group before an unidentified gunman opened fire.

Kingston-born Johnson came to England with Bolton Wanderers, making his debut during the 2001–02 season.

A winger, he came to Boundary Park on loan between 2004 and 2006, making a total of 39 appearances and scoring nine goals.
