A PILE of rubbish including sofas, a mattress and other furniture has been dumped at the side of a building.

The waste was dropped on a back street behind Seymour Road in Crompton.

Residents have voiced their anger and frustration about the fly-tipping incident.

Lisa Aspden lives a short walk from where the rubbish was left.

She said: “I am a keen walker and cyclist covering a good distance on my travels, and I see this type of thing happening too often.

“At times in the countryside I find it frustrating when I see dumped rubbish.

“There are resources available to help with such things, albeit they may be charged for services.

“When I moved recently I paid Bolton Council to take away an unwanted couch, washing machine and other things.

“I would not dream of just dumping items.

“I cannot judge people’s financial situations, especially in the current climate.

“But even in a predicament there must be options that mean our town is not used as a dumping ground.

“I use the tip at Raikes Lane to dispose of unwanted belongings.

“Fly-tippers drive around until they find a suitable spot and I assume it is done under the cover of darkness.”

Lisa added that the change in some residents’ behaviour in getting rid of rubbish has also become noticeable.

“It seems to be getting more and more common that people just drop stuff,” Lisa said.

“People should not be just throwing stuff onto the street or wherever because they no longer want it.

“I do not know if it is premeditated in the sense that they already know which location they are going to discard their items or if it is spontaneous.”

Bolton Council's executive cabinet member for environmental services delivery at Bolton Council, Adele Warren, condemned the incident.

She said: "Fly-tipping is a disgrace.

"It does really have an impact on our lives.

"If people use somebody to dispose of their waste they need to check that they have a valid trade licence and it is disposed."

Cllr Warren also added that recycling centres are open and that the local authority offer a bulky waste service, which is £32 for up to five items and £64 for between six to 10.

The council say that if your waste is fly-tipped, by you or by someone else on your behalf, you could face a £400 fixed penalty notice or an unlimited fine.
