ENTERPRISING Lee Newsome thought he would have to return to sender when his plans to set up as a Elvis tribute artist collapsed because of the pandemic.

Lee and his wife Donna moved to Spain last year to concentrate on developing his high profile show full time.

Lee, 48, from Copthorne Park, said: “We had only been there four weeks when Covid-19 struck and we were locked down for months.”

He thought he’d had his chips ... but then be decided to return to the UK and launched the only Elvis inspired mobile fish and chip van in the UK - Cod in a Trap.

“In August we made the decision to sell up and come back home as we had zero income and were just haemorrhaging money.

"I started to think what we could do on our return and, as my background has been in the catering industry, I started to look at fish and chips, a great British favourite.

“I spent weeks trying to get this off the ground, searching for a name and a van. Then I and came up with 'Cod in a Trap' based on Elvis's song Suspicious Minds.”

“I had the idea of the logo in my head and my awesome brother-in-law Carl Pugh, brought the logo to life.”

He has invested £60,000 in the smart new rig, see pictures and added: “We are ready to go and start trading. We are available for all private events and weddings.

“And The King will also be available too when we start up again and staff appreciation and corporate days, so if you want to treat your staff to a fantastic lunch, then please get in touch. We are available nationwide.”

Lee began his first day yesterday behind The Sun Mill, Chadderton with plans to be at B&Q Oldham, between 10.30am to 2.30 pm and at different locations around the borough Monday to Friday. Details on his Facebook page.
