AN Oldham School has issued a stark warning to the “irresponsible” dog owner guilty of leaving dog mess outside the school gates.

St Edward’s RC School in Lees, Oldham, wrote in a scathing post on Twitter yesterday: “To the irresponsible dog owner, who continually allows their dog to foul just outside the school gates, please help yourself to some ‘poo bags’; courtesy of St Edward’s.”

“Should you require instructions on how to use them, please contact the school office. This area is used frequently by children of two schools and we expect it to left free of dog mess.”

The message ended with the warning: “We will pass on your details to Oldham Council.”

A spokesperson from Oldham Council said: “Everyone has a right to live in a clean and safe environment and dog fouling is not just a blight on communities - it is also potentially dangerous.

“It is difficult to understand why people would deliberately place mess in an area, especially near a school, and we would encourage St Edward’s to contact our enforcement team if they have evidence of the culprits.”

Failing to remove dog faeces is an offence in Oldham and can result in a fine of up to £1,000.

The perpetrator in this case has yet to be named and shamed but has been identified by the Roman Catholic Primary as “not a member of our school community”.

In response to the Twitter post one mother wrote: “It’s been happening for years my children go to the school next door to this school and personally I feel it need more bins around the Lees area especially near the bride a lot of dog walkers in the valley.”
