YOU can't beat a trip to the chippy.

Our love for fish and chips is one of the things that unites us as a nation.

These fantastic photos capture the joy of a simple trip to the various fish and chip shops in Oldham from the sixties onwards and there's not one picture we don't love.

From hungry school kids to glamorous dolly birds lining their bellies before a trip to the pub, these photographs certainly capture the heartwarming moments that just a bag of chips can bring each of us.

Portions of fish wrapped up in newspaper with lashings of salt and vinegar or a chip barm, no wonder these folk are smiling for the camera.

Faggots were a popular option to buy and eat for tea back in the day, sadly we don't see them as much anymore in the chippies in and around Oldham.

What's your favourite chippy tea? Do you have any memories of chippies in Oldham or do you recognise anyone in these pictures?
