A DRIVER who tried to flee after crashing his van in Ashton was caught by 'eagle-eyed' police officers.

Police shared a picture on Facebook of the damaged vehicle on Sunday with a comment stating they had been called to reports of a crash on Broadoak Road in Ashton Hurst on Saturday night.

The post added: "Driver had made off from this van which had crashed into a vehicle parked at the side of the road.

"Whilst awaiting recovery, eagle eyed #PCSOs noticed a male walking past the scene, matching the description passed by witnesses.

"Male stopped and arrested under suspicion of driving whilst unfit due to drink or drugs."
