Oldham has a falling death and infection rate from Covid, falling in line with the national trend.

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics show there were 41 new cases today, one of the lowest daily totals so far this year.

The numbers mean there have been 340 cases over the last week, a fall of 17.1 per cent from the seven days before this.

Across the country as a whole the figure is falling 14.7 per cent.

There was one more death in Oldham which came within 28 days of a positive test for the virus.

The weekly total of fatalities stands at 10, a drop of 33.3 per cent from the week before this.

Across the country this is coming down by 31 per cent.

Oldham had a rising death rate for much of this month but now this has fallen in line with the national average.

The number of people in the town with the virus per 100,000 stands at 153.9. Across the whole of the UK the figure is 116.4, meaning the virus is still more prevalent in Oldham than elsewhere.
