A CHADDERTON Mill has been sold to a Manchester property developer for £2.2million.

The Grade II-listed building has been derelict since it was no longer needed for the cotton trade.

It has been bought by Evermark Property Group, a Prestwich registered property company, which has plans to move into part of the mill as part of its long term expansion strategy.

Real Estate business, Davies Harrison agreed the sale to Evermark Property Group who have granted a leaseback of 12 months to the existing occupier, Manchester Storage for £220,000 per annum.

Rick Davies, of Davies Harrison, said: “This was a complex sale for a Grade II-listed building, particularly as it was agreed during lockdown

“However, we were able to negotiate a deal that suited all three parties involved.”

We are seeing a real surge in demand for not only brand new accommodation, but second-hand cost effective accommodation, particularly for storage and distribution facilities.

We have completed a number of mill sales in the last few months, developing a unique approach to this niche sector of the property market.”

The Hartford Mill in Chadderton has 249,517 sq ft site sits on five acres of land.

Following its sale people have commented on what they would like to see the listed building used for.

Chadderton resident George Harris said : "I think the mill would make fantastic apartments, it would be great to see something like that with the architecture restored to its original glory.

"It really is a beautiful building if you take a look closely."

Another resident Anne Barlow said: "It would make a lovely series of apartments but it would also be nice to see it as a leisure complex perhaps with a few shops and restaurants inside of it.

"It certainly has the capacity for that, it would be great for the town and would be a real focul point whilst keeping the town's heritage for us all to see."

Oldham Council was contacted for a comment but have yet to reply.
