ACCORDING to latest annual figures from the Department for Environment and Rural Affairs, more than 2,066 fly-tipping incidents occurred in Oldham last year.

The fly-tipping incidents reported by Oldham council included, 1129 back alleyway incidents, 373 highway incidents, 298 footpath/bridleway incidents, and 106 council land incidents.

There were also three incidents involving animal carcasses and three asbestos incidents.

The number of incidents involving dumped black bags filled with fly-tipped rubbish also feature in the data. According to the report there were 74 ‘black bag commercial incidents’ and a shocking 1530 ‘black bag household incidents’.

There were also 909 car boot incidents, 684 small van load incidents, 224 transit van load incidents and 15 tipper lorry incidents.

The action taken

According to latest data, 496 fixed penalty notices were issued last year in Oldham, 230 of which were paid.

There were also 77 prosecutions, costing £16,700.

For fines there were 7 £0-£50 fines, 12 £15-£200 fines ,47 £201-£500 fines, 5 £501-£1000 fines and one £1001- £5000 fine. In total the fines came to £19,159. 

In the same period, 348 littering fixed penalty notices were issued in conjunction with fly-tipping, 98 fixed penalty notices were issued for household duty of care, 42 fixed penalty notices were issued specifically for fly-tipping and 214 statuary notices were given and 160 warning letters were sent.

The cost

According to the report the tipper lorry load clearance costs came to £3450, and significant/ multi load clearance costs came to £3680.
