A MAN has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead in Bardsley, Oldham.

Daniel Smith, 41, of Park Road, Oldham has been charged with murder.

He has been remanded into custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today, March 8.

A 35-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has now been released under investigation.Formal identification has not yet taken place. 

Officers were called around 12.15pm on Thursday March 4, to a report of concern for the welfare of a woman at an address on Ashton Road, Oldham.

Emergency services attended and a woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as per standard procedure following previous police contact.

While formal identification is yet to take place, police said the victim is believed to be a 29-year-old woman and her next of kin has been informed.

A post-mortem is yet to take place but police said initial enquiries suggest the woman suffered "a number of stab wounds" and that this is an isolated incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Chatterton, of GMP's Major Incident Team, said: "This is a devastating incident, and our priority is to do all that we can to fully establish the circumstances of the woman's death and give her family some much needed answers.”
