The rate of Covid in Oldham has continued to plummet, but the town recorded its first death from the virus in almost two weeks today.

The latest data from the Office for National Statistics shows that there were 33 new cases in the area today, and over the last seven days 157 positive tests have been found.

The figure is a fall of 39.1 per cent from the week before this.

The rate of Covid per 100,000 in Oldham is continuing to fall.

The figure now stands at 77.6 – it had been at over 100 for much of last month.

Across the country as a whole it is 39.

There was one death recorded in Oldham today which came within 28 days of a positive test for the virus.

It was the first death since late March in the area.

Over the UK there were 45 deaths yesterday and there have been 214 over the last week, which is a fall of 35.5 per cent.

The latest data shows 31,707,594 people have now received their first dose of the vaccine and 5,683,509 have had their second dose.
