A man has appeared in court accused of the manslaughter of a man in Oldham and conspiring to commit burglary of his home.

Peter Cordwell died during an incident at Collop Gate Farm in Heywood in Rochdale, shortly before midnight on October 28 last year.

Police were called to the scene following reports of a burglary.

The 48-year-old was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

The father of three had worked as a demolition contractor.

And yesterday Ahmed Kadiri appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court charged with manslaughter.

It is alleged he killed Mr Cordwell in Oldham on that date last year.

He also faced charges of conspiracy to commit burglary at the property in Rochdale, criminal damage of £5,500 to a Toyota Landcruiser belonging to Mr Cordwell, violent disorder and using metal bars, batons and crowbars during the robbery.

The case against Kadiri, whose address was given as Northam Walk in Wolverhampton, was too serious to be dealt with in that court.

It was sent to Manchester Crown Court Crown Square, where Kadiri, aged 44, will appear again later this month.

Last year Ahman Mizra, of Norris Street in Lincoln, appeared in court in connection with the incident.

The 36-year-old faced charges of three counts of attempted section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, one count of violent disorder and one count of possession of an offensive weapon.

An earlier statement by police about the incident said: "At around 11.15pm on Wednesday 28 October, police were called to reports of a burglary at units off Manchester Road, Heywood.

"Officers attended and found a man - one of the owners - had suffered what is believed to have been a medical episode and died a short time later.
