AN OLDHAM pub has hit out at customers for abusing staff amid ongoing Covid restrictions.

The Britannia Tavern on Hollins Road, Oldham took to Facebook on Sunday to tell customers that if they had an issue with the latest Covid rules they should take it up with the Prime Minister, not the staff.

The post published on the pub’s Facebook page reads: “Sadly we have had a few staff members receiving abuse from customers due to current Covid rules that have been implemented. Please remember it is not them that have set current rules and they are just doing their job.

“If you feel that you don't have to follow them please contact Mr Johnson and kindly ask him to contact ourselves to let us know that you are exempt from the rules set out and we will happily follow his advice.”

The post continued: “I would like to say a big thank you to those that are still following all guidelines and understand we are only doing what us and everyone else has too.”

The post has received wide-spread support from the public and accumulated more than 50 likes.

One commenter wrote: “That's such a shame. When we have been in the staff have been amazing. Running round trying so hard to ensure the rules are followed and everyone is fed and watered. They don't stop for a minute. Thank you to all the staff for keeping us safe and giving us back some normality.”

Another added: “And there's always those that think the rules don't apply to them.”

Last week pubs and restaurants reopened in England outdoors for table service only.

Under the new rules customers must follow either the rule of six, or be in a group of any size with no more than two households.

Every customer aged 16 and over has to check in to NHS test and trace, or give contact details to staff.

When not seated, for example when going to the toilet , customers should wear face masks (unless exempt) and follow social distancing rules.
