Photographer Karen Jakeman and her two daughters decided to really let their hair down, all for a good cause.

The trio have donated 24 inches of locks – a year's worth of hair – between them to make wigs for children with cancer.

During the first lockdown, Amy, 15, and Annie,10, did not have a haircut and during summer the three decided to keep growing their hair until Christmas.

Karen said: “We planned to have our hair cut short in the New Year so we could donate it to The Little Princess Trust.

“It would be fun to do as a family and would be great to be able to donate it to such an amazing cause.”

The Little Princess Trust provide wigs to children with cancer to help boost their confidence.

Karen from Springhead who is also a teacher, went on: “However, another lockdown hit and we ended up growing our hair for another four months.

“It costs £550 to make the wig along with the hair we donate so we decided we wanted to raise enough money for at least one wig.

“In a couple of days we raised £175 and were thrilled.

"The money kept coming in with family and friends even donating whilst we were having our hair cut. Currently our total stands at more than £440.

“If you are able to donate and help us reach our £550 target please click the link below and donate whatever you can, as every amount helps.

"And don't forget to add your Gift Aid if you can.

“When the ‘ big clip’ came, Louise Barker, our mobile hairdresser, spent nearly four hours, bobbling, cutting and styling our locks. It was a mammoth task — but well worth it all round.

“New hair, new us - and 24 inches of hair donated between us as well as the fundraising for The Little Princess Trust.

“Please look at the website below to read how this charity can help a little ones life at a very difficult time. They're amazing!”
