The rate of Covid in Oldham is continuing to plummet.

The data from the Office of National Statistics show that there were 17 cases in the town today.

Over the last week there have been 67 cases, which is a fall of just over a quarter from the week before this.

Across the UK as a whole cases are falling at a slower rate of 7.1 per cent.

The rate of Covid per 100,000 people in the town now stands at 29.5, compared to 21.2 for the country as a whole.

For much of this year when Covid levels were higher Oldham’s rate was around double the national average.

There have been no deaths in the area since April 12.

Over the country there were 15 deaths today which came within 28 days of a positive test for the virus.

There have been 81 deaths across the UK over the last week, which is a fall of 38.6 per cent.

The data also shows that 135,470 people across the country were given a first dose of the vaccine today, which means 35,069,641 in total have now received this.

There have been 16,764,720 people who have received both doses to become fully vaccinated.
