AN EAST Lancashire venue has been named as one of the top five most dog friendly hotels in the UK.

According to research carried out by Webbox Naturals, the Spread Eagle Inn in Sawley, Clitheroe is the fifth best placed hotel to take a dog, thanks to many of its rooms being suitable for pets and its location being ideal for dog walking.

Pet food specialists Webbox say that searches for dog friendly hotels have increased by over 120 per cent in the week following the opening of outdoor hospitality, with the Spread Eagle being one of several the company has recommended around the country ahead of hotels and B&Bs reopening on May 17.

Webbox Naturals pet expert Melanie Smith: "We’d love to encourage folks to bring their furry friends out with them on a classic British petaway, they’ve probably missed the time away from home as much as you have!

"Remember that although lots of establishments are dog friendly, it’s important to keep your pup well-behaved.

"We recommended bringing their favourite treats and toys with them on the trip, to make sure they feel comfortable in their new environment."

Webbox hopes that as well as finding suitable destinations for dog owners, their recommendations will also help to stimulate the hospitality industry as it reopens.

As well as The Spread Eagle, the company's top recommended dog friendly hotels are Lushpad Apartments in Manchester, Chevin Country Park Hotel and Spa in Leeds, The Bay Horse Inn, Hexham and Mercure Kenwood Hall and Spa in Sheffield.

The recommendations have been made as part of Webbox's PAW (Pets Are Welcome) guide.

The firm says that PAW encourages people in cities and towns to share their favourite places to take their pets, in addition to seeking out new and exciting locations to visit, including popular parks and walks to gardens, record shops and hotels.
