The number of Covid cases in Oldham is continuing to fall – in contrast to the national trend.

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that there were eight positive tests in the town today.

The number means there have been 64 cases over the last week, which is a fall of 4.5 per cent.

Across the UK as a whole cases are rising by 13.4 per cent.

Earlier this week Oldham recorded its first death in almost a month which came within 28 days of a positive test of the virus.

There were no more deaths recorded today in the area.

Over the whole of the UK there were just 11 deaths today and there have been 70 over the last week, which is a welcome fall of 22.2 per cent.

The number of people with Covid per 100,000 in Oldham stands at 27.4, which is slightly above the national average of 21.6

Figures also show that there were 135,113 first dose of the vaccine given out on Monday across the country, which means that 35,722,461 people have now received this.

There were 350,147 second doses given on the same day, meaning 18,438,532 people are now fully vaccinated.
