A EUROVISION Song Contest hopeful is calling on Blackburn Rovers supporters to help her reach next week’s Rotterdam final.

Bulgarian contestant, VICTORIA, will feature in next Thursday’s semi-finals bidding for a spot in the final which takes place on May 22.

The artist, whose full name is Victoria Georgieva, will perform her entry Growing Up Is Getting Old bidding as the competition returns after a 12-month hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Her Rovers link comes through her producer, Genoveva Christova-Murray, a Rovers supporter and wife of John Murray, chair of the Rovers Trust.

They have kitted the 23-year-old out with a Rovers shirt and hope that will pique interest in East Lancashire, with UK fans able to vote on the second semi-final that Bulgaria will compete in.

UK entrant, James Newman, is one of six artists already secure of a place in the final, alongside performers from France, Germany, Italy, Spain and hosts The Netherlands.

And VICTORIA will aim to be among the 20 semi-finalists voted through to the final night, her challenge to finish ahead of nine of the 16 entrants she will compete alongside.

“Genoveva is a competitive person at heart and aims to instil the same drive in the artist she represents,” John said.

“This music-football crossover is one that is rarely seen which makes it that much more valuable that it has Blackburn Rovers at the base of it.

“Here’s to hoping that the Rovers’ fighting spirit, “by skill and hard work”, can lead VICTORIA to the Eurovision trophy.

“We would love it if the Blues Army would steer VICTORIA towards to the top of the table.”

Victoria, who finished sixth in the Bulgarian version of X-Factor in 2015, was due to be in the competition 12 months ago, only for the pandemic to hit.
