AN inquest has opened into the death of a woman from Hillside Avenue in the Shaw area.

Susan Booth,62, was found outside her home with serious injuries on Tuesday, May 4.

She was rushed to The Royal Oldham Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

An inquest into her death was opened by coroner Julie Robertson, at Rochdale Coroners Court on Friday, May 14.

The court heard that Mrs Booth, who has three grandchildren, was “attacked” at her home address, 37, Hillside Avenue, Shaw and suffered “serious head injuries.”

She was taken to The Royal Oldham hospital but died “as a result of her injuries”.

Stephen Booth, 64, of Churchfields, Audenshaw, was arrested and subsequently charged with Susan's murder, according to a statement by Greater Manchester police published on Tuesday, May 11.

The statement added that Stephen Booth has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on July 2.

The coroner confirmed Mrs Booth was married to a Stephen Booth, but police have not confirmed whether the man charged with her murder was her husband.

A date has not yet been set for the inquest, which has been suspended for criminal proceedings to take place.

Paying tribute to Susan, her family said: "We, as a family, are devastated to confirm the passing of our beloved mother, daughter, sister and aunt, Susan Booth on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.

“Mum was the epitome of caring, both in her professional and personal life.

"If you knew her, you would have known that nothing was too much trouble, and she would help anyone who needed it.

"She was dedicated to her three grandchildren, who were the light of her life and will be deeply missed by all of us.

"We thank everyone for their sympathy and ask for privacy during this difficult time."

A much-loved healthcare assistant of over two decades at Royal Oldham Hospital, her colleagues also paid tribute to her.

Karen Coverley, director of nursing at The Royal Oldham Hospital, said: “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic news of the death of our colleague Susan.

"Susan was a long-standing and very popular member of our team at Oldham and will be sadly missed.

"She was extremely well liked by colleagues and patients alike, and always so caring and compassionate in what she did, nothing was too much trouble.

"Our thoughts are with Susan’s family, friends and close colleagues at this difficult time. We are offering support for our staff who worked with her.”
