RESIDENTS have been warned to be make sure they keep their homes safe from burglars with warmer weather ahead.
Oldham Council has urged people to be mindful of "opportunity thieves" who may try and take advantage of open windows and doors.
The local authority has listed three pieces of guidance to help people to prevent criminals striking at their properties.
A council spokesman said: "Don't let opportunist thieves ruin your summer, follow these simple security steps:
"Don’t leave open windows and doors unattended.
"Lock all windows and doors when you leave the house and set an alarm
"Use light timers when you leave the house overnight."
